Anna's Bio:

Born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC, Anna came to Boone to study at Appalachian State University in 2007. In 2011, she received a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Criminal Justice. After taking five years off to work, Anna returned to Appalachian State in 2016 to pursue a Master’s in Social Work. A horseback rider all her life, Anna currently rides and trains horses at Butler Stables and competes in endurance races. She lives with two cats, two turtles (who have three pet goldfish), and a frog.

Why I Joined RISE:

Returning as a student, Anna wanted to reconnect with the community and build new and meaningful relationships with its members.

What I have Learned In The Process:

Advocated for the formerly incarcerated

Developed a network of resources

Receive MSW

Complete and disseminate community needs assessment

Always listen to others’ stories before you pass judgement. She also learned more about herself and where her true passions lie.

Future Plans:

With her new degree, she wishes to start a career that seeks to address the needs of justice involved individuals.
